Experience the awe of having a unique encounter with a wild (not the usual rehabilitated) orang¬utan as you watch them in the canopy above you. trek through parts of the 25,000 hectares of peat forest in the Sebangau area, conserved by the care of the "cimtrop" team.
Feel the thrill as you first spot orangutans in the canopy or on the ground of their natural habitat. Follow them on foot and keep up as they swing through the tree tops. Learn about their habits from the research team who are studying them and accompanying you to ensure that you and the orang-utans are happy with each others presence. Access the jungle on a fun cart on sleepers, climb up the tower to see the vast rainforest panorama. Learn about the importance of the peatland forest at CIMTROP's natural laboratory and the work they have been doing to protect this endangered environment.

Rungan River Oranguttan Cruise

1 Day cruise on the Rungan River departing from Palangkaraya, passing islands of rehabilitated orangutans, entering narrow channels and ox bow lakes. Watch the local river traffic and gold dredging and fishing.
Stop on a sandbank for a picnic, and stroll through a forested area to hear the bird song. Alternatively, depart from the Dayak village of Sei Gohong or the local port of Tangkiling and enjoy a 3 hour cruise on a klotok with all the above activities included.
Orangutans and Forest
Visit the Orangutan Education Centre at BOS Rehabilitation Clinic. Then walk on the boardwalks through the Nyaru Menteng Arboretum to see the peat swamp forest reserve. A picnic snack is provided. Conservation and rehabilitation donation strongly encouraged.

Tanjung Puting National Park and Orangutan Tour


Kalimantan's most famed park is home to the renowned Camp c Leakey orangutan rehabilitation center. Set up in the the 1 970s, this large camp cares for orphaned and rescued Orang-Utans. Smaller camps such as Tanjung Harapan are used as an
introduction to the rain-forest for younger orangutans that have been recovered from other areas. The National Park is also home to crocodiles, bear cats, dolphins, hornbills, gibbons and monkeys, all thriving in the peace of mangrove forests and wetlands. Small boats on the many waterways can be used to reach remote tribes and trekking routes.

Rimba Lodge, Tanjung Puting National Park

It is possible to stay on board a klotok boat and venture deep in to the park, but if you prefer more comfortable accommodation available at Rimba Lodge, which has a beautiful setting beside the Sekonyer River just outside the Park's boundary. Fans, mosquito nets and a restaurant serving excellent local food are all available. During the day take a klotok into the park, where you can explore the jungle looking for wild orangutans and enjoy the sounds of nature at its finest.
Central Kalimantan is home to some of the largest remaining wild populations of orangutans. Come an see their unique habitat and support local initiatives for nature and wildlife conservation, protecting the unique biodiversity and maintaining the ecological balance of the area.
